Values

Credibility – Empathy – Personal Goals – Community Spirit

Derbyshire 4×4 Response is a volunteer group covering Derbyshire, The Peak District and surrounding areas. We are a registered charity. All members are vetted, trained and evaluated. As a charity we hold our own insurance.

The main objective of Derbyshire 4×4 response is to provide logistical support. This may be the transport of critical staff / supplies during periods of adverse weather, or to areas normal road going vehicles cannot reach during normal weather. We are also able to offer assistance supporting stranded vehicles, whether this be on a snow bound road, muddy field, flooded track, or anything in between. Lastly, we are also able to offer traffic control and marshalling support, both in times of crisis and at planned community events.

Derbyshire 4×4 Response was founded by eight members, each being active and experienced responders. Between them having well in excess of 50 years 4×4 response experience. We currently have over 40 active responders, with several more working their way through our recruitment and training process. We strive to provide a professional and efficient service to all our service users

All our members are volunteers. All responders are owner/drivers, and supply their own vehicle and equipment. We have 3 levels of active responder within the group. The first of these is made up predominantly of drivers of “soft roader” type vehicles. These responders have undertaken and passed our in house driver evaluation, where we ensure they are competent drivers with good knowledge of driving in adverse weather. This level of responder is ideally suited to the transportation of personnel and equipment in moderately adverse weather conditions. The second of these levels is made up of responders who have undergone our in-house, all terrain and adverse weather driver training, and also towing, winching and recovery training. These responders are suitable to be tasked in areas of more severe weather, or where the towing and recovery of vehicles may be necessary. They normally drive more capable, all-terrain vehicles. Our top level responders have undergone the same assessments and training as the first two groups, but are also LANTRA certified in off-road and adverse weather driving, giving our service users the reassurance that these responders are capable and qualified to be deployed into the most severe conditions.

Derbyshire 4×4 response is a member of 4×4 Response UK which is a UK based charity, with upwards of thirty member groups, covering most areas of the UK. These groups, like Derbyshire 4×4 response, work closely with local authorities, emergency services, private enterprise, organisations and charities to provide all terrain logistical support wherever and whenever it is needed.
